All of our staff members participate in continuous training designed to help them interact successfully and positively with people who have dementia. A psychiatrist, nurses, nursing assistants, a recreational therapist and other professionals work as a team to create programs that help residents retain a sense of self-worth and independence. We encourage families to be involved in their loved one's care by participating in Heatherwood activities and in our Family Support Groups, and by discussing their concerns, suggestions or insights with members of our team. |

I grew up in a family of caregivers and began working with the elderly with dementia at age 14. As a caregiver, I learned the basics of providing good care to memory impaired adults and fell in love with the idea of becoming a nurse. I worked my way through college and graduated second in my class. After graduating, I began working in a level two trauma center in Daytona Beach, Fl. There I worked as a nurse for patient suffering with acute diseases and trauma to the brain and spinal cord. Many of my patients had dementia. I moved to California and began working as the Director of Resident Services for a Residential Care Facility In Menlo Park. I assisted in the day to day running of a 38 bed dementia Care facility. I trained staff and was responsible for state compliance as well as ensuring quality care. At Heatherwood, my responsibility is to oversee the day to day operations. I am committed to providing our residents with a loving environment and excellent care. I am responsible for all aspects of the community, including State Licensing. I have worked with the elderly for more than a decade. I literally grew up in this field and cannot imagine doing anything else. I find my career deeply rewarding and love being part of the Heatherwood team.
